Exploring Surface — computational surface study

Summary

Exploring Surface is a formal study of the surface as both geometry and spatial material. The project investigates how a continuous digital surface can be manipulated to create curvature, variation, depth, and changing spatial conditions rather than being treated simply as the boundary of a solid object.

Project record

01 / Overview

A computational study focused on generating and manipulating continuous surfaces as a method of spatial exploration.

02 / The idea

A surface can do more than enclose a volume. Changes in curvature, continuity, subdivision, and deformation can themselves generate spatial character.

03 / What I did

Computational modeling, geometric experimentation, form development, and visual studies.

04 / How it works

Rather than assembling form from discrete objects, the study begins with continuous geometry and explores how local transformations accumulate into larger changes in shape, rhythm, depth, and spatial perception.
